Christchurch
The Craft Embassy
Perched on the first floor of The Terrace, a vibrant mixed-use development bordering the Avon River in central Christchurch, the space was designed as a venue to showcase a premium craft beer offering in a refined yet approachable setting. With dual outdoor zones, one overlooking the river and the other sitting above a shared laneway and courtyard, the tenancy offered an ideal canvas for a layered, experience-driven interior fitout.
The design draws on the artisanal nature of craft brewing, incorporating rich textures and honest materials. Guests are welcomed through a striking reclaimed timber entry door, setting the tone for the tactile palette beyond. Inside, dark timber veneer panelling is offset by elegant copper negative detailing, timber flooring, and a black acoustic tile ceiling, chosen not only for aesthetic cohesion but also for its noise-reducing performance in this bustling venue.
A sense of warmth and craftsmanship runs throughout the space, with hand-trowelled peeled plaster feature walls, rust-toned tiles, and deep leather upholstery adding to the venue’s earthy, grounded character. Oversized rattan pendant lights and built-in planters lend softness and a sense of casual intimacy, transforming the rear deck into a garden-like retreat. This outdoor area was enclosed with a custom steel and glass structure, allowing year-round use while maintaining a strong visual connection to the laneway below.
This fitout balances comfort and character with robust materials and considered detailing, creating a welcoming, down-to-earth space that reflects the passion and personality of the craft beer culture it celebrates.
